Star Trek Movie with Leonard Nimoy as Old Spock

A new cut of the Star Trek movie trailer has been released. But there is a real surprise at the end of this latest trailer: we have a glimpse of Leonard Nimoy as old Spock! There is indeed a time travel twist in the plot of the movie and actor Leonard Nimoy who epitomized Spock in the original series is making a cameo in J.J. Abrams' Star Trek movie.

Here below the new Star Trek trailer with Leonard Nimoy as Spock (check at 1:49):

So here a screen cap of Leonard Nimoy as old Spock:

It's strange to see Spock without his Starfleet uniform, but I suppose that Starfleet has its retirees too!

Would have been nice to see Shatner as well.

I don't know if anyone has thought about this, but in all likelihood, it is not Spock that Leonard Nimoy is playing, but his father (or even grandfather). This would make a lot more sense given the timeline of this film. It would not make sense to have a VERY old Spock, especially given the rate at which Vulcans age. Nimoy is probably playing a Vulcan Elder.

Unfortunately for him Shatner would have turned this into a farce...and Nimoy has to be Spock, anything else would be so wrong!!

It's either gonna be really good or really bad given the hype it is creating among trekkies! Can't wait!

The reason Spock is not in uniform is that immediately prior to the movie, he is living on Romulus as an ambassador brokering peace between the Vulcans and Romulans. In fact, he is a Rolulan citizen now. See the events in "Star Trek: Countdown" for further details.

In a way, I agree that it would have been great to see W. Shatner in the moovie as well, but then, William Shatner did not care much for Geene Roddenberry's Star Trek universe, did he? On the other hand, it is great to see Leonard Nimoy as Spock again, and great to hear (for the last time) Majel Barrett-Roddenberry as the enterprise's computer.
